The Re-education of the Female

On the radio today I heard about a book called The Re-education of the Female. I thought, this must be a joke. No one in modern society could get away with writing this book. Even if for some unknown reason it was published, no one would read it, right?

But here it is, on Amazon, for $10.40.

First time author Dante Moore claims that he tells women what men are really thinking–in the most blunt and honest way possible. What a kind man for providing his infinite wisdom on poor little women. Moore, who has never been married, says the book will help women find “a man of quality.”

Here are some great quotes for you:

“Here’s a little secret, ladies. Men never really ask for anything. They command. And believe me, what you won’t do, ten broads around the corner will.”

“The fatter you get, the more you decrease your potential single-man pool. Let me give you an example. When you go to the grocery store to shop, do you pick out the nastiest-looking, most rotten, smelliest fruit or meat you can find? Oh you don’t? Why not? It’s the same with men when they see baby-elephant-sized, out-of-shape women.”

If that is the was a “man of quality” thinks, then I’ll pass.

Moore claims he’s never been in real love, and that’s why he’s never been married. He does seem to also think he is God’s gift to women, ready to bestow his wisdom on us. Thank you Dante, for making a buck of the insecurities of women. What a novel idea.

The Washington Post did a little piece on this genius. Read it here.

**UPDATE: As you can see in my comments, THE Dante Moore himself visited my blog, and had some pretty vapid, pathetic things to say. Check out my response here.

Return of a serial killer?

I watch waaaaay too much Law and Order, the Closer, etc. I’m the first to admit that.

But an article in LA Weekly published today is a quick reminder that Los Angeles really is the city straight out of the movies. According the the Weekly, a serial murderer, who was MIA for 13 years, is back. Yes, a serial murderer. And no one–the police cheif, city council members, or our celebutant-mayor seem to be too concerned. Maybe it’s because the murders aren’t in Beverly Hills or Westwood. Maybe they think there are more serious matters to attend to (like reelection campaigns). But last time I checked, no one here wants to live a non-fiction version of their favorite television show, so maybe somebody better get on the ball here.

News 21 Goes Live

The website for the News 21 Fellowship  I’ve been involved with for the last ten weeks finally goes live tonight. The stories range from Evangelicals, to new citizens to Native Americans and how their votes will affect the upcoming election. Each story has multimedia elements, including slideshows, video and maps.

I spent some time talking to Native Americans in New Mexico, and discovered that a handful of activists have been working for nearly 20 years to get Native Americans registered to vote. Their efforts are finally paying off this year, with thousands of New Mexico Native Americans mobilized to have a real influence over the outcome of the state.

New Mexico is a beautiful state–with blue sky for days and stunning cliffs–but the poverty of the people was tough to see. Here are some photos, and please check out the site.

Please feel free to check out the general site here:

Something in the Gotham City Water?

What is going on with this Batman cast? Hollywood seems to still be recovering from the shocking death of Heath Ledger, and now Batman himself is acting very un-hero-like.

Christian Bale was arrested for allegedly lashing out at his mom and sister in London yesterday. Hours after his London premeire, Bale was taken to the Big House.

I’ve always thought Bale looks cool, calm and collected–a very undercontrol human being. But his past is a mess. His mom was a circus actor–a clown and dancer. His family was unconventional, to say the least.  His father ran away to sea.

Regardless of how unconventional his upbringing was, nothing can excuse attacking a woman–especially your famiy members. There’s something much more disturbing about this crime than all those drunk driving and drug charges all the rest of the stars are facing.

Even though all the details of this mess haven’t been released, it seems that The Dark Knight may be cursed…

Obama at La Raza

I took some video of Obama’s speech at the La Raza Convention in San Diego (see my story with nearly 10,000 hits here). It’s a tad shaky, but when all I’ve got to work with is a little hand-held camera, well, that’s all I got.

He speaks about the American Dream and the Latino vote, so take a look. And if you haven’t seen him speak in person yet, I suggest you find a way.

Vying for Native American Votes

ALBUQUERQUE — Native American voters, often treated as an afterthought in presidential elections, are receiving an unprecedented amount of attention from both presidential candidates this year in the battleground state of New Mexico.

It’s a development nearly two decades in the making in which a handful of Albuquerque–based activists have been working to create a well-organized and powerful Native American voice.

Today, with 63,000 registered voters, according to the Secretary of State’s Office, Native Americans may well be the swing constituency in one of the most politically volatile states in the country.

The Sacred Alliance for Grassroots Equality (SAGE) Council, founded in 1996 by brother and sister Sonny and Laurie Weahkee, was formed to protest the construction of a road through the Petroglyph National Monument on Albuquerque’s fast-growing westside….

Why working at clubs is like the end of the world

I have worked at nightclubs for the past couple years. It pays the bills. However, I’ve always known I need to get out of this business ASAP. It’s a little dangerous, especially when the night is over. There are so many drunk people wandering the streets, and sometimes people are of a “rougher” crowd if you will.

Last night, as I walked to my car at about 2:30 am after work, I found a CRIME SCENE blocking my entrance (and exit) to the parking lot. Yellow tape. Police. And ambulance.

A CRIME SCENE.

A shooting crime scene with a BODY blocking the driveway.

One drunk guy crossed the tape while I was there, and was promptly arrested as a cop screamed, “There is no way I am letting you contaminate my crime scene.” That’s all I needed to hear.

Needless to say, the police didn’t give a damn about our cars stuck in the lot, and so I have to go pick up my car the next day.

I wasn’t alone in witnessing this mess. A TMZ camera man was walking back to his car when he saw the shooting. His report is here.

I can’t go online anymore, I’m allergic

I was watching local TV news in New Mexico today and saw a story on a group of local Santa Fe people who are fighting to have wireless internet services banned in public areas. They say they are allergic to wireless signals.

Really?

I know the technologies of today could always have the possibility of causing some side effects tomorrow, but I find it hard to believe that the wireless signals are making people’s legs go numb.

You have to love local stories, though.
