Jason Mraz’s video “I’m Yours” was filmed on the islands of Oahu and Kauai. I stumbled upon it today, and can’t stop watching it.

I was lucky enough to live in Hawaii for a couple of years, and there’s no place like it on earth. People are friendly, the sky is a beautiful piercing blue and the friendships last forever. Greens and blues are as ever-present as the sun. There, possibilities are endless, as is love. Some people say paradise doesn’t exist. They’ve never lived in Hawaii.

I try not to think of it too much because my heart breaks a little every time. I never thought I could develop a love for a home so fast. And at the same time, feel I’ll never get it back as it once was.

If you’ve never been there, I insist you must go. Stay for a week, stay forever.

Someday, I hope to have a home there. Someday.

Flour shower for Lohan

Lindsay Lohan was pelted with a bag of flour as she entered a nightclub in Paris with friend, Sam Rosen. She was wearing a fur stole.

PETA’s blog had this to say about the incident:

“Lindsay Lohan’s tan turned noticeably paler tonight after an anti-fur activist showered her with flour at a nightclub in Paris. Lindsay was on her way into the VIP room on the Champs-Elysées just after 1 a.m. early Saturday when she had an entire bag of flour dumped over her head by a French fur foe who shouted, “Lindsay Lohan—fur hag!” “

Lohan was named to PETA’s annual worst-dressed list earlier this year. Her entry read: “I Know Who Killed Me isn’t just the title of Lindsay Lohan’s latest bomb, it’s the cry of the animals snuffed out so that this ‘mean girl’ can pose in their pelts. Lindsay, there’s no road to recovery for the foxes who are anally electrocuted so that you can look skanky.”

PETA has been a harsh critic of Lohan for some timenow, asking her to get rid of her fur-wearing ways.

I’m a big fan of animal rights, and not of a fan of stupid celebrities who do nothing good with their power, so to me this seems pretty much ok. I’m trying really hard to see the other side, just for the sake of those that will argue against me, but I just can’t.

Animals can’t defend themselves against the cruelty of people. And this is not about human freedom to dress how we please. Because it’s about animal rights. We’re not talking about sandals or high heels. We’re talking about living creatures.

For someone with so much money (and so little purpose) it would not take much effort for her to ditch the fur. And maybe gain a LITTLE respect. But that doesn’t seem to be a priority for Lohan in any shape or form.

“Quantum of Solace” Review

Bond: Beautiful and bold, just what we expected.

I’ve never been a fan of action movies. I don’t love violence in films. I’m more of a ‘it’s-all-about-the-story’ kinda gal.

But, with all my heart, I love Bond films.

From Goldfinger to GoldenEye  to Casino Royale, I’ve loved them all. I love them for the James Bond, the Bond Girls and the overwhelming chase scenes. I love them for the amazing, exotic locations and the hard-hitting fights.

So of course, I was pumped to see Quantum of Solace, the follow-up to Casino Royale starring Daniel Craig as James Bond.

And it did not disappoint, mostly.

Quantum is beautiful, exciting and fun. But it does lack the presence of past Bond movies.

In case you forgot, in Royale James Bond loses the love of his life, Vesper. So now, he’s out to find the man who did it, and stop an environmentalist from terrorizing South America.

The film opens with a car chase (Aston Martin, of course) which quickly reminds you of why Bond films rocks……..

Will.I.Am- “It’s a new day” video

The dreams that I been dreamin
Finally came true.”

Hologramed-in Will.I.Am and his real counterpart have been a pretty great asset to President-elect Barack Obama. The viral video became a real force to be reckoned with this election.

On Friday, he released his latest video–a celebration of Obama’s victory. It has the usual visits from celebrities (Fergie, Kyra Sedgwick and husband Kevin Bacon, etc.), this time dancing in celebration. But more importantly it has that same energy of optimism and possibility.

I don’t know how long the fact that Obama won will give me chills. I hope forever. It’s a great feeling.

The line outside the Times

It’s day three now, and the line outside the LA Times won’t let up.

As much as I’d like to believe these people are buying dozens of papers and plaques for their own pride in this monumental moment, EBAY tells me differently.

People are selling them.

And while I get that America was built on entrepreneurs and go-getters, there’s something kind of horrifying about this get-rich-quick scheme going on under my nose. I can’t quite explain it, and I admit that it doesn’t make sense that this annoys me, but all I know is that it does.

When the sales ladies across the hall are yelling about how one plaque went for $500 (I think they cost $10 downstairs), I get annoyed. I think it’s because–while this moments is HUGE–those papers won’t be worth anything in a decade.

I like to think that people are buying up the paper in bulk because they want a historical record of this moment, but I have a feeling most just want some extra cash in their pockets.

A great day for the newspaper, too

Because of yesterday’s historic results, print newspapers are having a SOLD-OUT day. Literally.

When I was walking down the street in downtown LA on my way to the Times building, I saw people walking with stacks of newspapers. That’s something you don’t see everyday around here. Or anywhere.

A friend of mine said he’s having trouble finding a San Francisco Chronicle, and in LA there are signs on every empty box saying where you can find a paper. Luckily, being in the LA Times building, I was able to grab one or two.

Everyone wants to remember this day. And they don’t want to just print out the article from their computer. They want to hold that newspaper in their hands. They want to hold history in their hands.

I guess that’s how you know this is really a moment that will last forever.

CNN’s Hologram

While watching my fifth hour of CNN election coverage last night, I was BLOWN AWAY by the advanced technology the station was using. They had a giant interactive wall that seemed to work like a mega-Iphone.

But more importantly, they HOLOGRAMED people in. I doubt that’s a verb, but it should be. For example, Will.I.Am was in Chicago at the Obama rally, but was beamed in for an interview with Anderson Cooper (see video below). Just like Star Trek/ Wars. Who knew we had come so far.
