World Cup 2010 Hunks

By Rebecca Ford, Metromix

David Beckham who? While that British hunk may be missing out on this summer’s World Cup in South Africa, there is plenty of other eye candy on the field.

Soccer (or as the rest of the world call it, football) players are really the perfect specimen. Physically fit, agile and talented, they’re passionate about their sport and willing to get sweaty to win. And they often celebrate by stripping off their shirts, which is totally fine with us.

Visit METROMIX to meet some of the steamiest players hitting the field this summer.

Olympic Hotties!

By Rebecca Ford, Metromix

The Summer Olympics make hottie sightings easy with all the skin-tight swimsuits and gymnastic outfits. But it’s more a challenge with the Winter Olympics, with all of the athletes wrapped in ski suits and goggles.

Luckily for you, we’ve done the hard work, and uncovered the hottest snow bunnies and hockey hunks competing in Vancouver this year.

Week in TV

My newest weekly feature for Metromix highlights the upcoming TV premieres for the week. Here’s this week’s column:

By Rebecca Ford, Metromix

Have you heard that “Lost” is returning for its final season this week? Because if you haven’t, you’re probably living under a rock, or on a time-traveling island.

But that’s not the only TV highlight for the first week of February. Super Bowl XLIV airs this Sunday, and, speaking of football, Michael Vick is getting his own reality show.

Click ahead to see the shows returning to a TV near you.

Of recent times

I’ve finally finished flying, and boy are my arms tired (haha). But seriously, I’ve returned from Vegas, and I am ready to really buckle down for 2009!

2008 was hard on many, and I know I’m blessed that I wasn’t hurt too much by the economic struggles (knock on wood). I hope 2009 brings all sorts of goodness to everyone in my life—because such wonderful people deserve a little love in life.

Here’s a recent piece at Metromix:

An Update on Ara Abrahamian

Ara Abrahamian, the Swedish wrestler who walked off the podium and dropped his bronze medal, has been stripped of his medal, and barred from all Olympic venues.

He violated the spirit of the Olympics, which was the point I was making in my previous post. Yes, he may have been cheated–but that was being investigated, so the podium was not the place to react. If he hadn’t made that display, he would still have a medal, rather than nothing at all.

Sore Loser

The Swedish wrestler, Ara Abrahamian, threw his bronze medal down and stormed off at the Olympic ceremony for wrestling today. See video here.

Sore Loser

The Olympics are about sports and sportsmanship. Abrahamian shamed his country and his sport with his actions. He seems to feel he was cheated out of the gold, but regardless he should be graceful in his loss. I understand that the judges are now under investigation, but he should let that take its course and at least be graceful on the stand. This is not about if he was wronged (which it sounds like he may have been) but about the way you carry yourself when you represent your country.

Countrywide Classic

At UCLA, some of the top men’s tennis players have gathered to compete in the Countrywide Classic.

Yesterday, Tommy Haas, who has won the tournament twice, took on 19-year-old Donald Young, and to everyone’s surprise, Young beat Haas in two sets.

While I am a pretty new fan of tennis, I can’t help but be amazed by Young. Haas is a legend, even in Los Angeles. (Kate Hudson, a friend and fan, was in the stands with Haas’ girlfriend.) This scrappy, up-and-coming kid just kept firing back, and through pure endurance beat Haas. He obviously has a great career in front of him.

Spain’s Carlos Moya played Xavier Malisse of Belgium. It took three sets and a tiebreak for Moya to beat Malisse.
